Eau Claire mom pleads guilty to leaving her 4-year-old alone for hours

UPDATE: July 11, 2018
Eau Claire (WQOW)
– An Eau Claire woman accused of leaving her young child home alone for at least 4.5 hours will have to complete parenting classes. That’s part of an agreement reached Monday for Madeline Skifton.

She pleaded guilty to child neglect, but if she complies with the terms of the agreement, the case will be dismissed in 1.5 years.

Skifton must also get a drug and alcohol assessment, and can’t have any contact with her son without approval from the Department of Human Services.

The boy, 4, was found crying early one morning in May. Skifton told police she left the house with friends, and thought it would be okay since he was asleep.

Eau Claire (WQOW)
– An Eau Claire woman is charged with child neglect for allegedly leaving her young child home alone for at least four-and-a-half hours.

Police were called to Madeline Skifton’s apartment building Sunday night after a neighbor found Skifton’s four-year-old son crying in the hallway.

Officers found beer cans, and bottles, inside the apartment, but no sign of Skifton. They contacted her parents, who got a hold of her, and she returned home around 3 a.m. She told police she left the house with friends and thought it would be okay since the child had fallen asleep.

Skifton is free on a signature bond, with orders not to have any contact with her child without Department of Human Services approval.

She returns to court next month.
