Train hits car in West Allis after police chase

WEST ALLIS, Wis. — A car was hit by a train in West Allis on Thursday morning, less than an hour after allegedly leading police on a chase in New Berlin.

New Berlin police said they had a pursuit involving a tan Toyota Camry around 12:20 a.m. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when officers lost sight of the vehicle.

Then around 1:15 a.m., a train hit that same Camry near 56th and Mobile streets in West Allis.

A spokesperson for Union Pacific said the car had apparently been abandoned on the tracks. No one was inside the car at the time.

No injuries were reported, and no one is in custody.

Officials said the train was not damaged and did not come off the tracks.

The suspects who were in the car got away on foot.
