Eau Claire man ordered to do community service after being caught in sex sting

UPDATE:

Eau Claire (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man caught in a police sex sting will spend a month doing community service work.

That’s part of the sentence handed down for John Wilk on Monday. Judge William Gabler also put him on probation for two years.

Police said last year, Wilk responded to a Craigslist ad posted by an undercover Eau Claire officer pretending to be a 14-year-old girl.

Wilk was arrested after arranging to meet the girl for sex.

Eau Claire (WQOW) — Police say an Eau Claire man thought he was meeting a 14-year-old-girl for sex. Instead, he is now charged with three felonies.

Police say John Wilk, 20, responded to a Craigslist ad posted by an undercover Eau Claire officer, pretending to be a 14-year-old-girl.  According to the criminal complaint, the two exchanged a number of sexually explicit messages. Wilk also allegedly sent her an email with a photo of his penis.

Wilk was arrested at the meeting place at Mt. Simon Park.  Police say he had a condom with him. He reportedly admitted to police he was there to meet the girl.

If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 105 years in prison.
