Menomonie (WQOW) – Sixteen students have a fresh reason to enjoy learning life skills thanks to News 18’s Tools for Schools Grant.

Every month, WQOW, Ashler Lasting Exteriors and CCF Bank give a $500 grant to a local school to help in the classroom.

December’s grant was awarded to Kristi Johnson’s special education class at Menomonie Middle School. The money will go toward supplies for independent living and life skill opportunities like cooking, baking and kitchen safety. Johnson said she learned of the Tools for Schools Grant by seeing News 18’s commercial on TV. When she applied, she didn’t realize she’d be picked so soon.

“Shocked, but absolutely grateful and thankful, Johnson said, “I just did it on Sunday and I got the call from you on Wednesday, but it’s definitely appreciated.”

Johnson said they will also use some of the money for personal hygiene items for the students.
