Eau Claire (WQOW) — Eau Claire floral and garden shops were flooded with families on Mother’s Day.
“It’s an annual tradition that they just keep coming back and spending time here and whether they get something today or not, I know they’ll be back,” said Angie Reit, manager of May’s Floral Garden.
Reit said this year’s most popular plants are the colorful and lively hanging baskets.
“They’re kind of like the gift that keeps on giving,” said Reit. “It’s something that’s going to last all summer long, as moms sit on the patio looking out the window at the hanging baskets. She’s going to think about you because you gave it to her.”
Ben Polzin, vice president of operations at Down to Earth agreed, “We’ll sell over a thousand hanging baskets just this weekend alone.”
With Spring in full swing, some will leave the shop and spend the day prepping their gardens.
“Something that I can work on all year with the kids,” said Virginia Winter. “[My daughter] likes to garden with me. It’s one of her favorite things and it’s something we can bond over and learn about and do together.”
Winter said spending the day with her kids is something she cherishes.
“I’m thankful that I have children that allow me to celebrate this day for myself,” said Winter.
