Eau Claire (WQOW) – Two local businesses are being recognized for their commitment to recruiting and hiring job seekers with disabilities.

Powertex and Gold’s Gym in Eau Claire were given the Exemplary Employer Award Tuesday by the Department of Workforce Development.

Assistant Deputy Secretary of Department of Workforce Development BJ Dernbach said it’s fantastic seeing employers in Wisconsin hiring people of all abilities.

“That is some of the best talent that they’re finding,” Dernbach said. “You can meet with these individuals, they’re happy. They’re glad to be at work and a lot of the employees are treated as just part of the family. Clearly this is a family employer here in the Eau Claire area. This is a phenomenal story to give them their award and recognize all their efforts that they’re doing here in the area.”

Governor Scott Walker proclaimed October as Disability Employment Awareness Month to highlight businesses that recruit and hire people with disabilities and encourage other businesses to provide those opportunities.
